13th Karachi International Book Fair commences tomorrow

Karachi: Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association (PPBA), in association with The National Book Foundation is organizing 13th Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF) from 07-11 December at Karachi Expo Center. The book fair has a direct participation of 10 and representation of 07 other countries; this information was revealed by Aziz Khalid Chairman (PPBA), at a press conference on Tuesday, here, at a local hotel.

Nasir Hussain Shah- Minister for Information, Labour and Transport Sindh will inaugurate the fair on 07 December. Publishers from Iran, India, Turkey, Singapore, China, Malaysia, England, UAE and other countries are attending the international event.

According to the organizers around 4.75 lakh people visited the Karachi International Book Fair (KIBF), last year, and thanks to the improvement in law and order situation in the city, they are expecting more than 05 lakh visitors in this mega event this year.

Owais Mirza Jamil- Convener of the (KIBF) informed that the book fair will be held in the hall number 1, 2, and 3 of Karachi Expo Center, where books of all genres and on all topics will be displayed in over 330 stalls for five days, from 10 am till 09 pm, except Thursday 07 December, with doors opening to the public at 01:00 pm.

He further informed that the President of Frankfurt Book Fair, one of the biggest book fairs in the world, has consented to attend the KIBF.

“Fairs are not only for book exhibits, anymore; international book fairs are very important forums, not only for the publishers but, also for the government agencies/ missions, as an effective tool for Diplomacy”, these views were expressed by Ejaz Shah, Advisor-Business Development, KIBF. He stressed that this edition would be instrumental in establishing an effective working relationship with key international book fairs leading towards an exchange of professional expertise.

Aziz Khalid said the aim of the KIBF is to develop a soft image of Pakistan to the world and to motivate the nation’s youth and students to take part in cultural and creative activities to strengthen their roles as pillars of an intellectually, scientifically, literary-wise and culturally flourishing future.

He further added that various book launching and book release ceremonies will also be held for notable writers, during the fair, besides entertaining various contests like drawing, recitation, extempore speech contest, and quiz for kids.

Karachi International Book Fair is one of the most anticipated events of the cultural and literary calendar of the Metropolis. It provides an opportunity to the book- lovers to find the books of their choices in the pools of millions of books on all topic, as well as, the big discount, according to the organizers, up to 70 per cent on some books, pulled Karachiites to Karachi Expo Center at KIBF.
