Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship 2017


KARACHI:  UBL- 9th Independence Day Cup Open Golf Championship is going to be held between 10 and 13 August 2017 at the Defence Authority Country & Golf Club, Karachi. This information was revealed by the secretary of the club retired Brig Tariq Rafique at a press conference held at the club premises on August 09th, 2017.

A total of 300 plus golfers are expected to participate in this tournament which also includes 100 plus professionals from all over the country. Around 200 golfers will participate in the main match. The event, sponsored by UBL, with prize money of PKR 2.5 million to be shared by Professional, Senior Professional and Junior Professional golfers.

Mr. Ali Habib, Head Corporate Affairs & Marketing at UBL commented at the event, “UBL actively promotes sports in Pakistan and is one of the few organizations in the country that has its own sports stadium and training facilities. Golf is one sport which is fast gaining a following in Pakistan. By sponsoring this event, we not only celebrate our Independence Day, but, also provide support to a sport which needs further exposure and involvement”.

Brig (retired) Tariq Rafique said, “We are all set to host the prestigious Golf Championship. We are confident of delivering a highly successful event”.

Secretary of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) retired Lt. Col Zahid Iqbal, who is also the Course Captain of the club and Head of Corporate Affairs and Marketing of the United Bank Limited Ali Habib said, “Besides, PKR 2.5 million sold cash distribution of prize money, 1.5 PKR million are allocated for other expenses of this Championship”.

Pakistan’s top golfer and last year’s winner of this Championship, Shabbir Iqbal is defending his title.
