KARACHI: – Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) is going to organize 42nd National Snooker Championship 2017 from 12 -21 March 2017 at Karachi Gymkhana. Fifty-six players from four provinces and the federal capital are taking part in the event. This information was revealed at a press conference held by the organizers and graced by PBSA’s Vice President Abdul Qadar, Chairman Asghar Walika, President Munawar Shaikh, Co-Chairman Alamgir Shaikh, Treasurer Irfan Moton and Tahir Ahmed- MD, Jubilee General Insurance and Abdul Basit- Finance Head, Jubilee Life Insurance.
Asghar Walika, on this occasion, stressed on the need of quality snooker coaching and increase in the prize money in the tournament for the improvement of Snooker in the country.
Alamgir Shaikh on a question of less representation of players from Sindh said that it was due to their poor performance, as any player from any part of the country performing well would got an opportunity to play in the tournament.
Tahir Khan- MD Jubilee General Insurance applauded the efforts of Alamgir Shaikh and his team for the promotion of Snooker and Billiard in Pakistan.
The two finalists of this championship will represent Pakistan in the Asian Snooker Championship-2017, scheduled to be held in Doha- Qatar from 22nd to 28th April, 2017.
Fifty-Six Players have been divided into eight groups. Two players from each group will qualify for the Pre-quarter Finals which will comprise 9 frames; while, the Semi Finals and Final will be the best of 11 and 15 frames, respectively.
Prize money for the winner is RS.100, 000 and Runner-Up will be awarded RS 50,000.
It is learned that Pakistan’s Junior Snooker team is going to India in April this year and their visas are in process. Moreover, their coaching camp would commence from March 25th in Lahore.
