The very transformation of the Pakistan from terrorism to tourism is a healthy sign for the overall progress of the country, as it has become the centre of attraction for its abundant, diversified splendour of natural beauty. This was the unison found among the speakers, addressing to the curtain-raiser Press-show of the foremost Pakistan Travel Mart-2017 (PMT), held yesterday in a local hotel. Sindh Minister for Tourism, Culture and Antiquities, Syed Sardar Ali Shah was the most prominent speaker who replied to a few questions, raised by the journalists, while others speakers included Mirza Ishtiaq Baig, the VP, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and Mr. Muhammad Ali Hamdani, CEO-Landmark Communications. A select number of print & electronic media workers were invited to be a part of this activity.

Pakistan Travel Mart- (PMT)-2017 is an impressive annual event to promote tourism in the country, being held at the Karachi Expo Centre from 24th November to 26th November 2017, involving all stake-holders, including top domestic and foreign airlines, travel agencies, Hajj & Umrah operators, hotel-owners, businessmen and senior government officials.

The PMT has been organized by Landmark Communications, with the collaboration of Sindh Tourism Development Corporation-STDC, Shaheen Airlines, Hashoo Hotels, Pakistan International Airline-PIA, TAAP, HOAP, Bukhari Group, Universal international Group, Qatar Airways, Meezab Group, Serena Hotels, Serene Air, Turkish Airlines, Travelport, Polani Group and others. A number of other conglomerates are also participating as their supporting partners.

The other distinguished guests present there at the press-show of PMT included Secretary Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Government of Sindh, Mr. Ghulam Akbar Leghari, Chairman Bhukari Group, Mr. Rafiq Khan, M.D SDC, Mr. Roshan Ali Kanasro, Chief Marketing Sales & Revenue Officer-Pakistan Services Limited, Ms. Lashley A. Pulsipher, Mr. Hanif Rinch (Representing TAAP), Executive Member HOAP, Mr. Furqan Abdul Qadir, GM-Turkish Airlines, Mr. Fatih Atacan Temel, Chief Marketing Officer-Shaheen Air, Mr. Zohaib Hassan, Chief Commercial Officer, PIA, Mr. Bilal Sheikh, Executive Director, United international Group, Mr. Shakil Ahmed, GM-DOTW Pakistan, Mr. Tariq Bin Yousaf, Chairman Hotel Association Pakistan, Mr. Zubair Surti and Arif Malik.

According to a press-note, issued by the organisers, Tourism Boards of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtoon Khwah are on board with them to convene the PMT, besides various international travel and tourism companies from countries like UAE, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia and Azerbaijan, the tourism boards; Tourism Malaysia and Thailand Tourism Authority.

The PTM organisers have said, ‘the event will be featuring all the 7 regions of Pakistan, as well as international enclaves’ to provide an opportunity to the Tourism professionals to get engaged and interact with each other for global tourism. The next year edition of PTM would have participation from 25 different countries, the media was told in the press-show.

It may be mentioned here that the United Nations had declared 2017, as the ‘International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development’. So, this is the high time that we cash in on our most scenic and splendid places, especially the ancient archaeological sites by organising unique expositions like PMT to further highlight the country’s potential as a great land for different tourist activities.
