The Dawood Foundation is conducting a summer camp at Dawood Public School for the underprivileged children from various parts of Karachi. The summer camp aims to providefree-of-cost enriching learning experience along with an inspiration to pursue education for a better future. Over 250 students are enrolled in this three-week summer camp who are guided by experts in art and crafts, computer, creative writing, gardening, music, yoga, indoor and outdoor games. The three-week summer camp commenced from Monday 25th June 2018. The camp is being organized for the third consecutive year.
The summer camp gives an opportunity to the children from various backgrounds to work and learn together while enjoying the best facilities provided by Dawood Public School to its children. The camp is managed by the staff of The Dawood Foundation, teachers and volunteers from the schools.
One of the highlights of this year’s summer camp is environmental upgradation in which children are being taught the importance of gardening. Students are given seeds to sow in the first week of the camp along with the instruction on how to take care of the sapling. By the end of the camp, children will have a new plant.
The summer camp is also supported by RoboTech and Steamers who have developed special courses for the children to enhance their creative flair as well as equip them with problem solving skills.
Other courses include Arts & Crafts initiative that allows children to paint a picture of their imagination whereas Music classes are planned to channel their inner talent. Yoga classes are also part of the camp that is designed to maintain physical fitness and wellbeing of students along with cognitive and motor skills. Creative Writing program aims to let the young writers explore their writing skills on a new level.
Speaking about this extraordinary initiative, Mahvash Roshani, Principal O levels, Dawood Public School said: “We believe that imparting education to this segment of our society would help us in bringing a positive social change. Through this summer camp, our teachers and staff are dedicatedly inculcating learning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among these children. In this way, we are able to amplify their self-confidence.”
The Dawood Foundation conducts this summer camp every year for the underprivileged children of the society, creating a sense of inclusiveness – an initiative which is needed to be followed by other schools as well. The idea of thissummer camp revolves around providing ample opportunities to every child regardless of the class they belong to. It is comprised of students from Rahat-e-Islamia School (adopted by TDF), Khatoon-e-Pakistan Govt School, Dawn Fellowship School, Khatoon-e-Jannat Fellowship School, Tayyaba Fellowship School, Al Majeed Fellowship School, Pak Care Fellowship School, Roshan Fellowship School, Noor ul Ilm Fellowship School along with the children of support staff at Dawood Public School.
